Jake Mead for Hillsboro City Council

City Budgeting and Fiscal Responsibility

Effective financial stewardship is at the core of my beliefs. We need to prioritize judicious expenditure and strategic investments. Reflecting on projects like the 53rd Avenue/Hidden Creek park, while a commendable addition to our community, I believe we need more transparency and smarter financial decisions. Intellectual Property rights, for instance, should be a factor considered in our investments. It’s not just about today’s expenses but also potential costs in the future.

Urban Development and Housing

When it comes to housing, the principle guiding my decisions will be simple yet profound: equity. I’m not in favor of regulations that can easily be bypassed by developers. Any housing project that comes my way will be evaluated based on its ability to serve the community equitably. Our focus should be on fulfilling the community’s holistic needs, rather than checking boxes.

Public Safety and Community Policing

The safety and well-being of our community are paramount. My approach begins with understanding the needs from the experts. Whether it’s evaluating the size and tools available to our police force or ensuring the Washington County Jail and the Sheriff’s department are adequately resourced, I am committed to initiating the right conversations and ensuring Hillsboro’s needs are met.

Local Businesses and Economic Growth

Hillsboro’s business environment should be a hub for innovation and growth. We must build on the solid foundation laid down by long-standing partnerships, like that with Intel, and expand our horizons. By showcasing Hillsboro’s robust infrastructure and our pro-business stance, we can attract diverse high-tech industries and fuel further economic growth.

Public Education and Local Schools

Education is the bedrock of any thriving community. I am staunchly proud of the Hillsboro School District, arguably the best in Oregon. With new leadership in place, I vow to maintain open channels of communication, ensuring that the city and the school district collaborate to offer top-tier education and promote city growth.

Technology in City Services

I’ve always been an advocate for innovation and change. Our city’s services can greatly benefit from a tech-first approach. By challenging traditional methods and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we can not only improve the quality of services but also achieve cost efficiencies.

As a city council member, my commitment is to work tirelessly to ensure that Hillsboro is not only prepared for the future but thrives in it. Join me as we move forward, making informed decisions that reflect our shared values and aspirations.
